We have SEP 12 installed on a Windows 2003 Server, and dbsrv12.exe is consuming large amounts of memory (about 1GB or even more) and we have to manually stop the SEP embedded database and SEP manager services to reduce it, but only for a few days, and then we have to do that again all over ..

    Any help ?

What's the exact version of 12.1 you're on?

How many clients connecting to the SEPM?

    Give this a try

    Go to C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tomcat\etc\conf.properties

open the conf.properties file in a notepad

    add this line

    scm.delta.cpu.usage=0.5
Decimal number between 0 and 1, where 1 represents 100% usage and 0.5 represents 50% usage.

restart the services. check if cpu comes down.

    2) Make client communication in pull mode with 4 hours interval. as per this document

That sounds odd.  According to the below article, the Embedded DB process is meant to be restricted to 128MB of memory (which it is on my test RU2 SEPM).

Can you go through the reg key identified in the below article and confirm your SEPM is using the correct limit?

    the registry key is

    -c 128m -ch 1023m -gp 8192

so the 1023m value should be 128m ?

    Yup!

My test SEP12.1RU2 machine certainly has it pegged at -ch 128m and is consistent with the article

    How's your SEPM looking now?

Hopefully the regkey changes sorted out the excessive memory usage.  If so, it'd be appreciated if you could mark any posts you found useful with a "Thumbs Up" or as the Solution.

    Ta!
