DBSRV9 memory issues

I'm doing a trial of SEP Small Business with two clients.  In both cases, the dbsrv9 process is approaching 500M of RAM usage.  One client only has 3 workstations being managed, the other has 9.

A number of threads show that you can limit the amount of memory this process uses by going to Server area of the Admin tab.  Well, that seems to be another feature of the SB product that was omitted.

There has to be a way to restrict the memory usage of this process.  This will probably be a deal breaker if there is no fix for this.  I'm trying to move my clients back to Symantec from Trend, we moved because of the disasterous initial release of SEP11.

    Comments?
    Ideas?
    Help?

    Hi,

    You can try the following:

    1. Make sure that you are running the latest version SEPSBE 12 RU1 [ 12.0.1001.95 ]

    2. Repair SPC, and see if the issue gets resolved.

    3. Run the debugdiag tool and create a rule to monitor for memory leaks. You can choose the dbsrv9.exe . Get the dump file and contact support to troubleshoot further.

4 Check if the following article is applicable to your issue:

The Embedded database is an Adaptive Server Anywhere 9.0 Database.

There are many 3rd party tools available to adjust the function of that type of database.

Note that there is currently no Symantec supported method of limiting the amount of RAM/CPU used by the embedded database (dbserv9.exe), either with SEP 11 or SEP 12 SBS

    Hi Craig,

Can you provide some details on Memory and CPU speed and # of procesors on the system running the management console?

    One system is a single Core2Quad 2.66GHz, 8 Gigs RAM - SBS2008

Two others I've done the install on are single P4 2.4GHz, 4 Gigs RAM - SBS2003

"Note that there is currently no Symantec supported method of limiting the amount of RAM/CPU used by the embedded database (dbserv9.exe), either with SEP 11 or SEP 12 SBS"

Is it just me or does this seem to be a bit crazy? Small businesses are only more likely to be running multiple systems on fewer servers (e.g. Windows 2K8 SBS). Surely the ability to manage or limit the resources the SEP management system is utilizing would be at a greater premium for the SBE edition; so why can it be set/managed in the full edition and not the SBE?

We have SBS 2008 Dell T100 8GB RAM and the Dbsrv uses all available memory sometime as much as 800M+

6 machine connected installed less than a month ago and cannot prevent server from slowing way down after about 3 hours from boot.

Installed SBE on a PC which had a disc crash so new disc/new OS install etc. Downloaded trial version of SBE and installed and within 24 hours I have 517MB in use for dbsrv9.exe   I hope no-one is going to tell me that this is a corrupt DB, I only have 1 client setup and if this is indicative of the way it is going to perform then you can be sure that count will drop by 1 PC.

Would be nice if someone from Symantec support would provide some support for this one.

I expect that dbserv9.exe will consume about that much RAM for the SBS product, even with only 1 client (this number wont change very much on a per-client basis so dont expect it to increase too high). It has performed that way in nearly all of the test environments I have seen, as well as production environments.

Don't think I can afford to run another PC just to host this and I certainly don't want that level of load on a user's PC so it looks like I go back to the reviews and choose again.
