Deduplication Issue

Created: 28 Jan 2014
Hi!

We are running Backup Exec 2012 (v14.1798) on a Windows 2008R2x64 (IBM System x3650 [7979KPG] / ServeRAID 8k/8k-l, 6 drives -> B2D). We also bought a license for deduplication function. I created two big partitions: one for fast backup/restore but short-time backups and another for dedup backup (as a backup job from last fast backup, once a week): server -> fast short-time backup (week storage) -> dedup storage (2 - 4 weeks backup).

One of the deduple backup job is a backup from NDMP (EMC Celerra) fast short-time backup. It always fails. I got error like this:

Job Completion Status
Job ended: 23 jan 2014 year at 14:00:43
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084c7 - A backup storage read/write error has occurred.

If the storage is tape based, this is usually caused by dirty read/write heads in the tape drive.  Clean the tape drive, and then try the job again.  If the problem persists, try a different tape.  You may also need to check for problems with cables, termination, or other hardware issues.

If the storage is disk based, check that the storage subsystem is functioning properly.  Review any system logs or vendor specific logs associated with the storage to help determine the source of the problem.  You may also want to check any vendor specific documentation for troubleshooting recommendations.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors

Nevertheless, deduplication from the SQL backups makes without any problems. I also tried to recreate jobs, clean storages, reinstall backup exec media server. I checked for the last drivers, last patches for Windows. In short, I've checked everything. Maybe someone faced with the same problem?

Thanks,
- Sergey.
