Hi all, can deduplication can be done with software compression ?

No. You should not use compression when targeting a dedup folder. Compressed data do not dedup well. Likewise, you should not encrypt your data when targeting a dedup folder.
If you do need compression, enable it during the dedup process. See this document

This is correct. When backing up data to a deduplication storage, the backup selections should not be compressed or encrypted before hand. Instead, let the deduplication system do it for you. Both of those settings are in the pd.conf file mentioned in the technote above.
