Deduplication storage folder Extendable?

Created: 10 Apr 2013 | 3 comments

Hello everyone,

I'm actually installing a Backup Exec server 2012 SP1a as a VM server windows server 2008 R2 64 bits. I'm actually creating a virtual disk for deduplication storage folder and I was wondering, whenever it gets out of space is it possible to extend the dedupe folder without issues? For exemple it's really easy for me to extend a data folder whenever it's getting too limit since I have disk space still unused I can enlarge the drive no problem but since this is about a deduplication i'm not sure...

Any one knows or tried that?

Thanks

Mike

Yes it can be done.  Stop all BE services, extend disk volume, ensure OS sees new space, start BE services.

There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."

You may encounter this http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH142552 so good to be aware. Apart from this all should be well

Symantec does not recommend the use of a VM as a media server, especially when you are using the dedup option.  This is because of the heavy CPU and I/O demands of the dedup engine.
