  • 1.  Default Data Classes used by Delta Software Inventory Policy

    Posted Jul 19, 2012 09:41 AM

I've recently inherited an Altiris environment, now ver. 7.1 SP2. While looking through the policies I've noticed that the "Collect Delta Software Inventory" policy seems to be different than the Full Inventory or the Delta Hardware policies.

For the Collect Delta Software Inventory policy, under "Select types of inventory to gather", the checkboxes for Software and File Properties are checked. However, when I look within the Advanced settings, absolutely no data classes are selected/checked.   *Screenshots are attatched.

Is this normal?  Is my delta software policy actually working and gathering data?  Shouldn't the inventory data I want gathered be checked/selected within the data classes?

    Thanks

I see the same in my environments.  However, because I never use the defaut policies but create new ones (or clone), I can't say whether that will function.

I recommend right-clicking the folder from within Policies > Discovery and Inventory > Inventory and choosing New > Inventory Policy.  Click Advanced, uncheck Hardware, then click the Run Options tab and ensure 'Send inventory changes (deltas) only' is checked.

Set a schedule for this new policy and apply it to a set of computers.

Yes, It seems to definitely be the default for software inventory, but I am confused on how it is populating those data classes when the policies run then.  I have never edited these before and never noticed any issues.

Another note, Hardware Inventory has ALL data classes checked?

I was on the phone with support today and threw in this question. Apparently, the software inventory policy uses completely different data classes, ones that are not available under the Advanced tab. So none being selected is the correct format, and you still will collect Software Inventory successfully.

Hardware Inventory should have ALL selected (yes even the data classes under software)
