Default Hardware Report shows Blank fields

Hi Everyone,

I hope someone can help me on this.  I tried looking for a similar scenario but I do not find that much article about this issue.

I am having some issues on the default hardware inventory report on Altiris where there are computers with missing data. The report looks like a broken puzzle.

I noticed this same issue on different customer environments running this report.

Is this a known issue for this Hardware Inventory Report?  How can it be fixed so it can provide complete inventory data?

Please help!

Thank you!

Does the inventory data actually exist for those computers?  Likely not.  Without looking at it the report probably uses Outer joins in the SQL query to return data whether or not there's data so computers aren't omitted from the results simply because there is a missing field.

Check to make sure that full inventory has run on the computers in question.

Potential fix for some computers not reporting to Altiris correctly

We found a way to fix a couple of our computers that were not reporting correctly to Altiris.  We believe that these have had their motherboards replaced. You may have luck doing this also…

  1.        Verify the problem by running this at command prompt on your own PC, replacing ‘ComputerName’ with the problem computer’s name or IP:
    wmic /node:ComputerName path Win32_ComputerSystemProduct
  2.        If “IdentifyingNumber” is blank and “UUID” is all F’s, then you have this problem.

We were able to fix it by updating to the latest Dell BIOS (A13 for these computers) and resetting BIOS settings to factory defaults.

I understood that the Altiris agent uses the wmic command above to gather hardware data so if that command returns the correct data, the motherboard is ok, if not it is a motherboard/bios issue.

What version of the SMP are you running?  In the release notes for 7.1 SP2 MP1.1 Rollup 6 (phew!) there is a fixed issue specifically around Hardware Inventory:

Hardware Inventory is missing many dataclasses. The agent appears to be collecting the data but it is failing to merge the data into the NSI. "Failed to merge the results of <approach2>...<approach2> with the final result"

Hardware Inventory is not reporting all, indeed most, of the dataclasses.

A point fix for 7.1 SP2 MP1 v4 was created in ETrack 3154889. Please contact Support for this point fix. The fix will be included in the 7.1 SP2 MP2 v6 roll-up.
