Default netbios name

Ok why is DS 6.9 SP1 defaulting some of the computers I boot up to PXE for the first time to "New Computer"?

This is causing major problems with pushing a deployanywhere image to these PCs, as you cannot have a netbios name that has a space in it.

Is there any way to fix this?

I can't "configure" the PC as it is a PC that was not previously in the database, and was PXE booted to winPE.

I have tried changing the variable in the sysprep.ini file to %NAME% as well, and that didn't seem to work at all, and it is still using "new Computer" as the name once the image is downloaded and sysprep is run.

is there any way to change this default name from "New Computer" to "NewComputer" ?

Also, the root of this issue seems to be that Altiris doesn't want or can't find something to name it by, as I would think it should default the name to the MAC Address of the PC if it cannot find the Dell service tag.

any help would be appreicated!

RE: Default netbios name

Hello,

There is a way to syncronize the computer name with the displayed computer name in the DS console. By default this is disabled in DS.

1. To enable this feature launch DS COnsole.

2. Select Options under tools.

3. Select the Global options tab.

4. Mark "Syncronize display names with computer names".  Click Ok to commit change.

Hopefully this should help u out.
