Default to Subscribe to threads?
Created: 12 Dec 2011 | 10 comments
From what i can see the default subscription to a new thread for a new user is to not be subscribed.
When you create an account the default is also not to auto subscribe (at least it wasn't when i joined).
My feeling is that anyone creating a thread should be subscribed to it as a lot of threads are created, help and advice is then poured into it by the dedicated forum followers, but the the creators never comes back to update it or just say "Thanks".
It may that some people just don't bother but it would be nice to at least know that when you add something to a post the creator gets a message that their thread has been updated.
Just an idea.

I totally agree with Mark.
I thought that 'Autosubscribe' for automatic subscribtion to own thread or thread that one posts a comment to was the default. It was the the default a couple of years ago when I joined.
Some of us (wink-wink) spend every waking moment trying to assist. It becomes a bit demotivating when list members (especially newbies) never respond.
Autosubscribe will surely help (IMHO)...

I would not want to
I would not want to auto-subscribe to every discussion that I post to. My in-box will be overwhelmed.
A better option would be to have a prompt asking the user whether they want to subscribe to the discussion when they create it. Some users are unaware that they need to subscribe to a discussion to get notifications of responses.
Users should at least be
Users should at least be automatically subscribed to posts that they create.
Subscription to comments can be optional...
I post a lot - get notification for all replies - I find the replies handy and normally give the email a quick read.
I spend a minute or so per day deleting them.

Nice to see some support on this - i agree with Marianne that my setting is to auto subscribe so that i can skim the e-mails and keep an eye on any thread which i have been involved in.

...I get autosubscribed to anything I post too...comes through in mail and I read it, and if need be, reply.
