    Hello,

I was wondering if someone could tell me from experience how big are regular updates for SEP antivirus - especially how many times a day and about what size.
We were told that normally updates are as big as 30-40 mb up to three times a day. If this is true there might be cases, on slow links, that the day might not be enough to downlad all the content, or nodes constantly downloading updates.

The definitions are released once in a day and the size is somewhere near to what you have mentioned. In case of managed clients the SEPM will download all the definitions over the internet and then the client machines on which SEP is installed will fetch it from the SEPM over the LAN

    Hello rnayden
When you first install SEP it take a big update files. I check it in our LUA. I have 2 downloads in a day.  and 30 or 40 mb a day.
What are you using for updates? GUP or LUA?
you can choice what will download with LUA and Sep Manager.
    Thanks.

It used to be around 20 mb couple years back, with the rate of new variants coming in it's around 70 MB right now for a tested XDB.

Certified defs are normally once a day and liveupdate is also delta based after the first LU session, so choking the bandwidth should not be the case.

http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-much-bandwidth-used-sep-client-one-day is a good reference for managed environment.

Thank you for the responces. We are evaluating the options to see what is the best variant to use in a dispersed environment. The thinnest line that we are going to use is 1Mb and with the bandwidth limitation feature everything seems ok

If you are having bandwidth limitations the best solution is use GUPs for updating clients

Fore more information regarding  GUP refer the below doc
