Definitions Out of Date After Rename and Domain Change

We are using SEP11 MR4 MP2, and on a number of servers we have gone through a migration process of moving these servers from one domain to another and renaming them.

Since the move of domain and rename all servers are now reporting an error that the Antivirus and Antispyware definitions are out of date:

av-error.JPG

What is strange is that the defintions for the server aren't out of date (29th October r25.)

I have clicked the Fix button, and this hasn't resolved the issue. I have logged on to the SEPM server, deleted the account, allowed the machine to check back into SEPM and this hasn't resovled the issue. The servers in the SEPM console are reporting the correct name and domain name of the server.

The servers are all running Windows Server 2003 SP2 and were working fine before the domain move and rename.

I don't really want to have to uninstall SEP on these servers as it may require a reboot which is going to mean out of hours work as they are in constant use.

We also have about another 30 of these to do and I don't want have to do another 30 reinstallations of SEP.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance,

James

Hi, If you create a silent

Hi,

If you create a silent install package and deploy it to a server, it will not require a reboot. A reboot is mainly required if you have installed the firewall component in SEP client. And on servers, its recommended to install only AV/AS. So if you want to re-install the client on one of the servers to see if that fixes the issue, you can export a silent install package with only av/as and deploy it to one of the servers. Follow the instructions in this KB. http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security....

Also, you can run a repair install on one of the server before you deploy the package.

Hi,

you're telling me that these are servers that SEP client switched domain and have been renamed? In this case it is probable that the unique key authorization with the server is no longer being valid.

Try this:

Hi Guys, I've run a silent

Hi Guys,

I've run a silent installation, dropped a new Sylink.xml file back in there and this didn't do anything.

Then as a test I unistalled SEP and reinstalled using the silent installation and that server is working fine.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Simple File Sharing and Windows Firewall

Additional Procedures:
(For XP Only)
1. Off Windows Firewall
2. Uncheck  Simple File Sharing in the Folder Options.

After doing DNS Suffixes, disabling Windows Firewall and Simple File Sharing, run sylink drop to reconnect to server.
