After sorting out the screw ups caused by the upgrade I am left with 1 corrupt task that I cannot delete. the option is greyed out. Any ideas ?

Could it be that your task contains links to file that is not avaialble anymore?

Please share log error - it could be helpful to understand the problem.

Looks like the task xml is corrupted. Please take a look at this post: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/cannot-delete-specific-task-console - solution described there for very similar situation.
