Deleting IMG Folders

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have a customer with SBS 2003 running Backup Exec 11d.  I only visit this customer once a month, and one of my tasks is to delete the obsolete IMG folders from the USB hard drive.  On this particular server, however, I am unable to delete the IMG folders because it shows the file ese.dll in each of the IMG folders as being  in use.  I can delete every other file in the folder, but not ese.dll.  Once I reboot the server, this problem goes away for the existing folders, but starts again with any new IMG folders.

I don't have this problem on any other SBS 2003 servers.  Any suggestions about why this happens and what to do about it?

Thanks.

IMG Folders

Hi John

If you set the overwrite protection period accordingly, it should clear out these files for you on a regular basis.

RE: Deleting IMG Folders

@Doug

in v11, IMG folders followed their own overwrite rules.  NO   IMG data will be overwritten until the disk physically fills up, or the Disk Space Reserve is met.  this was fixexd in v12 after a HUGE uproar here in the forums

@John

Doug is on the right track, tho. Rather than manually managing the IMG folders,  set the media set properties to allow overwritem, and if possible, place the B3D device on it;s own volume and just let it fill up and then overwrite

See  http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/286794.htm

The technote says 7170 fixed this, but IIRC it was NOT fixed until v12

I remember the uproar about

I remember the uproar about this with regard to version 11, so I didn't think there was any alternative other than upgrading to version 12.  I'll take another look at the settings.

Thanks much.
