  • 1.  Delivering Install Packages

I'm using SEPM 12.1.4013 running on 64-bit Windows 7 Pro machine. Client machines are mostly 32-bit Windows XP and a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 Pro.

How do I deliver install packages to a group of mixed operating systems (32-bit and 64-bit OS)? All machines are managed in the same group. Do I have to move them to 2 different groups, 1 containing all 64-bit OS and the other 32-bit OS?

Just add both 32 and 64 bit package to the group and the client will select the correct one based on the architecture.

Add both the packages to the group, clients would take the appropriate one..

Thanks for the links. That brings up another question, do desktops (WinXP, Win7) and server (Windows Server 2003, 2008) use the same install package? Those machines are all managed in a single group.

Depends. Do they have the same feature set? If not, you will want to separate out PCs and Servers. Otherwise they would both get the same features. Just guessing you only use AV on servers...?

Are you saying the software install package is the same for both servers/workstations but the features (or settings) may be user-defined? Sorry, I don't understand your last question.

Yes, I'm asking if the package that you install for PCs is the same one you use for servers? Meaning, do PCs have all of the components (features) installed (AV, PTP, NTP) as well as servers or should servers only get AV.

If your server package contains different features than the PC package, you should have these in separate groups.

When you assign package, you can modify what features needs to be installed.

If your desktop has only AV/AS and you assign a package which contains all the features, --> All features will be installed.

Not many users will have NTP installed on servers, its better to create different groups for servers , desktops and assign the auto ugprade package accordingly.
