Hi Everybody,

I have some restrictions in place with a client using DCM that prevent us from using the "Import catalog and inventory collector from: Dell site" option for downloading the catalogues. So I have gone to the default location, downloaded the catalogPC.cab file and copied it to a location I can get to on the DMC. However, when selecting the "Custom Location" option, the rest of the text mentions that you need to "specify the local path, UNC or URL where the catalogPC.cab and InvColPC_(version here).exe are located. I can find the location where I have placed the catalogPC.cab no problem, but have no idea where I can find the InvColPC_(version here).exe. The XML file contained in the .cab file makes reference to the InvColPC_1.1.0.53.exe (which is the specific version required for this .cab at a guess!) I have dug around on the Dell FTP site as well as run a search for *InvColPC* on my Altiris installation directory and I am none the wiser. Hey, I've even refernced the manuals and on-line help and can't find any references to this .exe. Can anybody help with finding this elusive .exe!?

Thanks in advance,

David

Hi! > "The XML file contained

Hi!

You are right! When Dell updates the catalog cab on their ftp they may also release new version of InvcolPC_<ver>.exe if needed. So you should check (and download, if needed) the invcol specified in catalog each time you download the new catalogPC.cab, if you want to use the "Custom Location" option. There is no such problem if "Dell site" option is used.

The CatalogPC.xml (exctracted from the cab) contains the reference to the required version of invcol file.
You can see the baseLocation="ftp.dell.com" in the xml file, so all updates (including invcol) take this as default root location.
Further you see the path="cmsdk/InvColPC_1.1.0.53.exe" for InventoryComponent, so the full path for the Inventory component will be: ftp.dell.com/cmsdk/InvColPC_1.1.0.53.exe

Now you can enter this full path as URL in internet browser and download the correct inventory collector file - no matter what protocol is used in this case: ftp or http. You can use any of them: http://ftp.dell.com or ftp://ftp.dell.com .

You should place both CatalogPC.cab and downloaded InvColPC_<ver>.exe into the same folder and then you can use "Custom Location" option in DCM's  "Dell Client Update Packages Catalog Import" task by specifying the  folder, where both cab and invcol are located.

Best Regards,
Dmitri.
