After installing PGP on several E6420s (Win7 Pro x64), they will not boot after the encryption process has been started or finished.  I have tried upgrading the BIOS to A02, but that does not help.  These systems are fresh out of the box with nothing installed on them.  Also, a colleague has had the same issue with a E6320.  The PGP login screen flashes by then the screen goes black and a message appears: " initializing loader"

    Any ideas?

We are experiencing the exact same issue. The first E6420 (preloaded with Win 7 pro, 32 bit) worked perfectly fine. Then I went to setup a second E6420 that had the exact same configuration, and it hangs on boot up with "initializing loader." Tried using the recovery disc but it does not recognize the encrypted hard drive and says it's possibly corrupted. Rebuilt the machine with Win 7 pro 64 bit, and installed a newer version of PGP (10.1.2) and same thing happend again.

Hopefully we can find an answer to this problem.

The following is from another forum thread that may helpful:

"We have been able to resolve the problem with the 6420 series by disabling the optimus option in the BIOS, which disables the embedded graphics card. Once that is done the computer only uses the separate on-board nVidia card and PGP works fine.

There is no option to do this on the E6320 series as they only have the embedded Intel card."

We (PGP Support at Symantec) would be interested in seeing results from those that don't have Nvidia graphics card (only Integrated Intel) after updating their Intel graphics card drivers.  If they are still having problems booting, with this Stage 2 "initializing loader" error.

This is still happening with e6320 with all drivers updated directly from Dell.  No NVIDIA.

    Hardware: Dell Latitude E6320
Platform (OS and bit version as well as service pack): Windows XP 32-Bit SP3
PGP Desktop version and build number: 10.1
Nvidia Optimus setting in bios (yes or no):  No Nvidia Graphics, only Intel HD 3000
    Workaround works (or not): No
CPU: Intel Core i7 2620M (Sandy Bridge)
    HD: 256 GB SSD
    RAM: 6.0 GB DDR3-1333MHz
All manufacturer drivers and BIOS are up to date.
    All Windows updates current.
Encryption completed 100% prior to rebooting.

I know there is a workaround for some, but it means disabling features of the system.  It is not a solution.  It has now been over two weeks since the issue was brought up.  Is Symantec working on it?

My understanding is that this is related to newer larger disks using a 4k sector size that PGP does not support.  It sounds like a patch or update will very soon be released, but that you must have an open support ticket to receive it.  Please look towards the end of this thread.

I can assure you that we are working on it. See this forum thread here for more information:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/pgp-wde-boot-screen-bypassed-stage-2-initializing-loader-error-cannot-authenticate-bootguard-

We actually have a test recovery cd that we are allowing customers to download. You will need to create a symantec support case to do so. If you haen't already.

Edit: I changed the forum link so that it's working

It should be in your nVidia Video settings.

If you haven't already created a case with Technical Support. You will need to do so. Then we can give you a download to the service pack that addresses this issue. The nvidia optimus setting is a workaround. We now have the code fix.

    Hello,

We will soon be using Dell Latitude E6520 laptops without Nvidia video card.

Do you have a PGP Desktop version that works fine with this laptop?

Presently we are using the following versions of PGP.

     - PGP Universal Server 3.01 Build (4054)

     - PGP Desktop 10.0.1.4054

Please stop posting on this thread about the Nvidia optimus setting and asking for a resolution. There is a known fix. it's to upgrade to our service pack.  Click on See solution. to see the solution.
