Deja Vu all over again...

They finally got a DMC version out that was compatible with SP3, and now SP4 rolls out and voila, DMC is incompatible...again.

If you're not already over there

I'll recommend cross-posting on Dell's DMC forum.

I can't update

Yep I can not install DS 7.1 or update to TMS now.  It failes the readiness check.

This is really starting to upset me.

AND... Even worse.. if you

AND... Even worse..

if you had the DMC installed, and then remove it and then install SP4

The readiness check will allow you to go thorough and the install is successfully..

But you will screw up the Software Management Agent Policy

Very similar to this KB Article ID: 50805

But unfortunately there is no real fix yet.

Only reliable solution I have

Only reliable solution I have seen with DMC in the meantime is to install it off the DVD which includes SP2.  You can't get SP3 at all, even though it's sort of compatible with a hotfix.

DMC 1.1 is due the end of this month which will include SP3, but once again they have been left behind.  No SP4 support until shortly after!!!  This is from the DMC forum on the Dell site.

Bottom line...

If you intend to use the Dell add-in products with the rest of Altiris, prepare for at least a one month to 2 month lag in upgrades. I would guess that Dell developers aren't given new code from Symantec until its damn near final release, so they can't stay on top of upgrades. I have a dev server that I upgrade and test the ITMS (formerly TMS) solutions without the Dell stuff, then add in the DMC once its out. When everything is tested, I upgrade the production systems and reset the dev server for the next go-round.

Its a total drag because you generally lose a month or so off of your AUP because of the delay, but if you need that Dell functionality, you have no choice. When its all working, it truly is good stuff if you are a Dell shop. Perhaps in the future, Symantec and Dell developers will work more closely together on upgrades.

Agreed billyccfs.  I have

Agreed billyccfs.  I have installed several DMC's in the last 8 months and I never install the latest NS service pack or the related hotfixes until Dell give the official go-ahead.   Been burnt a few times on this.

I hope that the Dell developers get involved with the 7.1 platform sooner rather than later.

DMC_1.1.0_A00.iso is

DMC_1.1.0_A00.iso is available from the sysman directory on ftp.dell.com.  I just downloaded it earlier today... having problems getting it to upgrade, though, as the upgrade fails each time that I choose to install Dell Solutions 1.1.0 from the Symantec Installation Manager.  The Symantec Installation Manager claims that I need DMC 1.1 in order to install Symantec Management Platform SP4, but whenever I try to just select the Dell Solutions checkbox, the SMP4 box is checked automatically.

Any ideas?  Quite a Catch-22.

Able to install

Since I already had SIM and Symantec 7 SP4 installed (without a DMC) , I was able to install DMC 1.1.0 by downloading the DVD iso from http://www.dell.com/openmanage burning it (or mount) and pointing my already installed SIM to the dell.pl.xml file at the root and adding the product listing.

Alright...here's a twist

billyccfs,
Then I wonder if I uninstall all of the DMC (Dell) components from my Symantec 7 SP2 Servers, do the SIM updates/upgrades, and then install the DMC components again, it should all work....?
I really just want to get to 7.1 Symantec/Altiris, and then get the Dell addins to work.  Any advice?
m~

Worth a shot

Thats the way I'd go assuming you back up your servers. Personally, I'd take a full image of one server, do the uninstall and upgrade, and see how it goes before moving on to the others.

I am really hoping that Dell and Symantec figure out a way to keep from breaking one another in the future. It starting to damage my calm.

We just acquired a new Dell

We just acquired a new Dell Server and I installed the DMC V 1.1. I am trying to install the Altiris CMS & SMS packages, but get an error at the Install Readiness Check, stating that DMC 1.1 is not compatible with SMP SP4. However, I installed SIM SP3 from the DMC 1.1 DVD, and SIM 7 SP4 appears as an available upgrade in the product updates screen. So, since SP4 is not installed, why am I getting the compatability warning? Am I missing something or do I have to wait to install CMS &SMS until DMC is compatible with SP4?
