  • 1.  Dell Precision T3610 hangs during PXE boot image load

    Posted Mar 11, 2014 01:09 PM

When booting a Dell Precision T3610 to network, the machine successfully receives an IP address and the PXE boot menu is presented.

When a menu option is seleceted, PXE seems to initiate download of the boot image, however it never finishes; the machine hangs and cannot download the boot image.

We do not think there is an issue with our environment as we have many other Dell machines that boot fine. We tried adding additional nic drivers from Dell to our WinPE image to ensure that the nic driver was not at fault. Also, we tried downgrading to older bios with no success.

We are running DS 6.9 SP6.

Booting to pxe and downloading the preboot environment uses the bios nic driver so windows drivers are not to blame here as no windows environment is running yet. Does the machine have enough ram for winpe to run in (I think rhe min is either 512mb or 1gb)?

The machine has 8 gigs of RAM. We're able to boot in machines with far less.

    Any ideas?

Are there any entries in the PXE log files on the DS?

It ended up being an issue with our PXE multicast settings.

We typically do not enable logs, however we enabled the MTFTP log and booted the machine in question to the network to see what we would get.

The log is attached here. Is there a particular log that would be more useful?
