You need to be on SEP 12.1 RU2 or higher for Windows 8 and 12.1 RU4 for Windows 8.1.

See this article:

About Windows 8 and Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1

If you have the correct version and it's still not installing, check the %temp% directory for the SEP_INST.log file and SIS_INST.log file and post here for review.

What logs do I need to gather in order to troubleshoot a failed SEP 12.1 client installation?

Hi,

Yes, you will need to upgrade to 12.1.4. The version you have is the first version of 12.1 and it is not supported nor will it install on Windows 8/8.1.

Please review this article on upgrading as it contains all the information that you will need for the upgrade:

Upgrading or migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.4 (RU4)/12.1.4a (ru4a)

You must test the AutoUpgrade process before you attempt to upgrade a large number of clients in your production network. If you don't have test Environment in your network, you can create new test group and add some test client in that group and check autoupgrade feaure.

You can simply Add the installer packages in your assigned group. Go to SEPM>Clients Tab>Install packages then click the Add a install client package,  then confiugre your upgrade or install settings and notifications then click Ok. Then SEP client will automatically upgrade their SEP after the policy/update was received.

Just make sure you add the latest SEP Installer package both 32 and 64 bit.

Regards,

JM
