  • 1.  Deploying HP Driver Packs

Looking to see if anyone has done this and how it may have been accomplished. We are looking to setup HP Driver/SoftPaqs so that they can be deployed by our service desk to client machines when someone calls in with particular issue. We are not going to mass deploy them to the enterprise it will be on if a user calls and it is determined as a troubleshooting step to update the drivers on that machine. We will need to setup many Driver/SoftPaqs for all of our models and would like to accomplish this thru Altiris. We would like to but it dosent have to be our only option.

I have been searching HP's site and they offer some options such as found in "Manageability_DriverDeployments.pdf" from thier site. The SoftPaq option seems to be stand alone, System Software Manager seems clunky to me and obviously SCCM is not an option since we use Altiris.

If anyone is interested in looking at that document I am interested in thier thoughts or if anyone has deployed Driver/SoftPaqs in the past how they accomplished this.

I recently asked the same question to one of HP's Technical Consultants and the answer was pretty much "you're on your own".  We've not used the SoftPaqs yet, but I gather they are just a collection of driver packs compressed into one file.  Once extracted they are simply a collection of folders for each driver.  When I asked if there was a way to install all of the drivers in a SoftPaq with just one command, the answer was no.  So we've resigned ourselves to using individual driver files and using quick deliveries to deploy and install them separately when needed.  Clunky, but it works.
