I ahve been throug the totturials of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.0.

I like them alot, But I did not find any way of deploying images to a brand new computer. Only to computers that already have installed windows :(

I would like to do that with a 2 og 4 Gb keyring.
I have been able to boot from it using HPs usb format tool and creating a ms dos disk of the keyring.

But I cant execute the image :(

Thx in advance for your time and efforts aiding a new commer to the world of Ghost :)

btw I have the ghost console up and running and 2 clients for test purposes :)

There's a bit more set up required if you want to restore an image onto a client without an operating system. You could either use a Ghost/Console Boot Partition or a PXE server.

Both of the options are listed in the Ghost_Im_Guide.pdf file under "Section 9. Appendixes" - K Installing the boot partition.

Also the following link goes into a bit more detail of using Ghost Boot Partition
    http://home.wlu.edu/~somerville_browng/techdocs/Installing_a_boot_partition.pdf

I'll quickly go through using Ghost Boot Partition as you wont need to install any other applications and I've had more experience with this.

In a nutshell, from the Console machine you create a Ghost Boot Partition image which you load onto the client first, then deploy the computer image you have.

    1. Using Ghost Boot Wizard create a Network Boot Package/Disk (This is used to establish a connection with the server machine)
    2. Create a Boot Partition Image from Ghost Boot Wizard
    3. Start a GhostCast Server session to restore the Boot Partition image
    4. Load the Network Boot Disk from step 1 onto the client machine
    5. Connect to the GhostCast Server session and start the session
    6. Once thats complete, restart the client machine
    7. The client machine should then try to establish a connection with the server
    8. On the Console machine, the client machine should show up on the Console
    9. Set up a task in Console to restore the image you wish to deploy
    10. Execute the task

    hey Bruce.

Thx alot for your answer :D
I was at school so that is why I dident read you reply.
I dident get an email notifying me about you answer either :(

The solution you describe is the one we have now :D
PRETTY complex with all those floppy drives :D

I have been setting Ghjost console up yesterday and ALMOST got it working.
I tried to create a Image of my own laptop but after rebooting it failed to connect to the GhostCast server. -- So now I need to configure that :p

the SECOND thing I will try to accoplice is use USB keys to restore images from.
We have some small departments that are located quite a bit away from us.

So if we could just send a 50$ Keyring then that would BE SWEET :D

back and study the manual again :D

Thanks, it's always good to know I was helpful.

It does get confusing loading the correct floppy disks and it took me a little bit to get my head around it initially.

I guess what you could do with your USB key is to load a standard boot package onto it and copy the Boot Partition image to it as well. That way you could just boot from your USB key and load the Boot Partition image effectively bypassing steps 1 - 5 above. That should make things a lot easiler.

Just in case you wanted to know about using PXE to restore images to computer with no OS, you can check out this thread:

    Good luck
