  • 1.  Deploying SEP - clients are unmanaged?

    Posted Apr 02, 2009 03:53 AM
    Hi,

I work at a small company, which have been using Syman Antivirus for about 1 year and have now bought licenses for Endpoint Protection.
Before i start deploying to our clients, i am testing SEP, to make sure eveythings goes smoothly.

I have installed the management on a newly installed Win 2003 standard.
Then i tried to deploy SEP to a couple of test clients using Migration and Deployment Wizard. But it seems that the clients are unmanaged - I cannot see the clients in the management console.
I then tried to install SEP on the server it self, and then i can see the server in the management console.

I found that SylinkReplacer1.2.exe and replaced syslink.xml on the clients to make sure that they had the correct file, but it didn't change anything.

Any idea on how to get my clients managed, so that i can deploy SEP to all of our workstations.

    Thanks in advance :)

Are you sure they are not connecting back? did you check Lost & Found group? Do they (clients) have a green buble on the shield icon?

The 2 clients that i tested on doesn't have a green buble on the shield icon.

But the SEP client on the server itself has a green buble - and this is also the only client that I can see in the management console.

Where do I find the Lost & Found group? I only have the standard groups in "Clients"

    in the manager

admin--install package--export client install package select group and then create
    setup.exe

install that exe into clients and then check ...

can you try secars test string from the clients?

    http://server/secars/secars?hello,secars

you should get OK if the connectivity to the server works and everything was installed OK.
If there is some error then you may want to use

    Symantec Endpoint Protection Support Tool

I used the SEP Support Tool, which had an error, that it couldn't contact the protection management server on port 8014.
Windows Firewall was enabled on the server, and when I disabled it, the clients got the green buble and the appeared in the management console :)

So now it seems to work!

    Thanks for your help :)
