Deploying Software/Software Portal Settings Missing

Created: 29 Jan 2013 | 10 comments

I am trying to deploy software, and there are lots of articles I found on how to do it.  I just can't seem to find the "quick delivery" and the other options I have to do because I feel like somethings missing.  Can anyone assist me? I am assuming this is something simple.

You're better off using Polices rather than Quick Deliveries. The easiest way to do either is to Manage > Software, go to Deliverable Software > Software Releases, right click on the Software Release you wish to distribute and select Actions > Managed Software Deliverty/Quick Delivery Task.

If you don't have any deliverable Software Releases you can right click and select Import in the white space below "Installed Software".

Software Portal Settings should be the next folder under "Software Catalog and ..."

Thank you for responding.

I do have one issue though.  I go to Manage > Software.  I don't see "Deliverable Software" though.  The following are all I see:

Software >

Software Catalog

  • Installed Software
  • With Unassigned Type

Data Provider Summary

I just think something isn't installed on the server to allow it or perhaps something has to be enabled?

You may not have the Silverlight view.  What version are you running?  The Silverlight-based view, called Activity Center, is installed when you install Deployment Solution or when you install the entire Client Management Suite.  If this is a new install you've just set up, then you're on 7.1 SP2 and you should have Deliverable Software listed in the left pane.

I am able to browse the site just fine.  I see that Silverlight loads when going through the rest of the menus. Below are the screenshots from the server.

Activity Center doesn't seem to be installed. Is this a new install?  Did you install the Suite or just single solutions?  Did you perform an upgrade recently?

If you run 'altiris_activitycenter_7_1_x64.msi skipaim=1' from a command prompt, does it tell you that it is already installed?  If so, go ahead and right click on the MSI and say 'Uninstall' and then run the command line above again.

Are you sure your Software Delivery Solution is installed properly?

I installed this this software last July and have been working my way through it about two nights a week, so you can consider this a new installation.  I don't believe I have installed this yet.

How do I install it?  Is it located in a folder and I just run it?

I'd upgrade to the current version, 7.1 SP2 MP1.1.

Upgrading to 7.1 SP2 from any prior version of 7.1:

Install Client Management Suite to ensure all solutions are upgraded properly.  The Activity Center will be included as part of this install/upgrade.

Okay,so I believe I got it working.  I ran the SIM again and installed the "Software Deployment Solution" or whatever it was called.  I now have the "Deliverable Software" under the "Software Catalog".  I ran into another issue though...might be again a small one.  I get the following error below.

For those that have bad eyes...it reads:

"No destination computers have been specified or these computers either don't have Software Management Solution Agent Plug-.....errr...I might have just figured it out. lol.  Pretty sure I did.  Will let you know.

Make sure you've enabled the Software Management Solution Plug-in Install policy at Settings > Agents/Plug-ins > Software > Software Management Solution Plug-in Install.
