Deployment Console 6.9 (SP3) Slowness

I was wondering if anyone has come across any users that have an extremely slow console.  We have the latest service packs and hot fixes installed and there are only 3 users out of about 50 or so that have a very slow console.  We tried removing and reinstalling the console on the machine, but that didn't work.  We also had the users restart their machines and ONLY have Altiris running.  The processor and memory (via task manager) were fine -- cpu only went up to 9 % and then dropped to 1%.  Machines are new HP Elitebook 6930P's and have 2 GB of RAM and are running XP.  When DS is started, it takes a good 3 minutes for it to actually open.  When it finally does, just scrolling through the list of machines takes minutes (on my machines, it scrolls right away).  I would appreciate any suggestions that would help with this.

Connection

This can happen if the connection to the SQL server is slow (i.e. coming across a WAN link).  Are there any differences between the "slow" users and the rest?  Don't limit your answer to the desktop.  Think overall such as WAN connection, firewalls, or other items between the user and the SQL and DS servers.

No, the SQL server is a separate server and it has plenty of resources.  DB is on a hard drive with its own controller, etc.  We have done tests on DB performance and it is fine; we have GB connections and these users are local to the server location.

AntiVirus or Firewall

For testing purposes, you might disable any AntiVirus/Malware scanning programs as well as any software firewalls on the afflicted computers.  If the performance increases, then you know that the settings of one of the items is causing the degradation in performance.

Tried that as well, but

Tried that as well, but didn't see any difference in performance.  Verified that the virus definition files were up to date too.  Also ran a full scan and the machine turned up clean.

What is the CPU usage on your Deployment Server machine?

I had huge issues with Dagent and encrypted communications which resulted in horrific cpu usage on the host server. When I tried to use the console when the server was in this state it was very slow.

Are you using dagent with encrypted communications enabled?

edit: looks like you only have a few users with this issue, my suggestion probably won't help, but I'll leave it up just in case.

CPU usage

The CPU performance is between 8% - 10% on our Deployment Server.  We do not have encrypted communications enabled.

I think it is a local machine issue since everything seems to check out ok and the problem is limited to about 3 users.  I wanted to see if anyone thought of something I may have been overlooking.  I may have them reimage their machines as a last resort, but it is a pain to reinstall all the applications.  I am still open to suggestions.....

Imaging

I would suggest that you have one of them take a backup image of their machine prior to starting over.  After they re-image their machine, start with just the console.  Measure the performance, if it is good, then start adding the applications one by one and test inbetween.  If you still have an issue with performance, at least the tech can still put their backup image back on their machine.

RE: Imaging

That is a great idea!  I will try that on one of the machines of the users who has two machines so I don't interrupt them too much.  One is a laptop user and I think they take it home, so it may be a challenge to get that one.  Hopefully they are willing to do that so I can try to get around this issue.  Thanks for the suggestion.
