    Hello

I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro with Encryption Desktop Powered by PGP Technology 10.3.2 MP7.

I have an encrypted disk (encrypted file mounted as T:) that doesn't dismount on system shutdown.  Maybe one time out of 20 I will be asked the encryption password on system startup, but usually the encrypted disk is already mounted when I log into the system.

It doesn't help that the product doesn't appear in the dropdown list when I' trying to log this note, so I've logged it under PGP WDE for Windows - but I am definitely using Encryption Desktop 10.3.2...

Anyway, if anyone has an idea of why the volume is not asking me for the password on system boot that would be great.

    Thanks...Dazed and/or Confused

There is a setting to mount the virtual drive on startup.  The rest would depend on your settings for password caching, whether you encrypted the drive to a passphrase or a key, what key mode you are using, mount inactivity timer settings, etc.

Thanks for you advise, however I'm still at a loss.

        Disk is encrypted by Passphrase.

Do not save my passphrase - checked.

        Mount at startup - unchecked.

Unmount when inactive for X min - unset.

Disk was still mounted at system restart.

Allow PGP disks to unmount even while files are open - checked.

Unmount when computer goes to sleep - checked.

Disk was still mounted at system restart.

FYI - I have been using PGP encryption for many years, long before Symantec took it over and I have never had this issue on another Windows OS or version of PGP.

Thanks in advance for any further ideas...

    Hi,

Some news to resolve this issue?

Volume is mounted at restart Windows 10. Without enter passphrase.

    Thanks,

    Hello

I haven't found a solution and it's very inconsistent - a few days where the drive is dismounted at shutdown/password required at startup and then weeks where the drive is already mounted at startup without requiring the password.

I've used PGP for years on other Windows versions and never seen this before.

    Not great...

Out of curiousity, is your Windows password the same as the password for the virtual drive?

Have you tried using a key to encrypt a virtual drive instead of a passphrase?

What is your "Unmount when inactive for |____| minutes." setting set to?

They may seem like odd questions, but I am trying to replicate some thing in a lab currently, so any additional information will be helpful.

It suppose passphrase has be cleared at end of session.

Problem is not constant but appears sometimes. This is a security issue and anyone can access my computer can be surprised with unencrypted data which supposedly are encrypted.

I have volume to mount at startup but don't ask the passphrase and appear as volume with total access to files. Other encrypted files which have out of volume (p.ex. deskto) request passphtrase! Curious volume don't but files out volume yes. It means passphrase was cleared but what for encrypted volume?

To avoid problem or maybe damage files I unmount volume and close service. Then init service and mount volumes.

I hope Symantec resolves this bug asap.

    Hello

I decided to turn my brain on and look for issues outside of PGP.  It seemed to me that it might have been Windows not shutting down properly, thereby keeping the PGP disk mounted.

On my machine I found that I had enabled "Windows Fast Startup" and this seemed like a good candidate for the behaviour I was seeing.  To enable fast startup, a copy of the kernel and drivers are stored in the hiberfile and reloaded at system startup.

Since disabling fast startup, I have been asked for the PGP disk password on each reboot.

I'll update this in about a month after I have confirmed the PGP disk doesn't revert to its "non-password" behaviour.

    Regards...

    Hello

Disabling Windows Fast Startup has definitely fixed my problem; the PGP disk is always being dismounted at shutdown and requires a password at startup.

    Hope that helps...
