  • 1.  Destination path in back-up image task DS 7.1

    Posted Nov 16, 2011 10:01 AM

    Hi

I have annoying problem when I create back-up image. In my environment I have PXE Server as Site Server and main Altiris Server. When the back-up proceed sometimes the destination path points to PXE, sometimes points to Altiris Server. I know that must be suitable parameter specifying right path, but I can’t find them in Altiris Console. I’m not interested capture image to web server.

I will be thankful for any ideas.

Which DS server version is in use at your end meaning Deployment Solution version from Symantec Installation Manager.

The image is always stored at the PXE (where the deployment site service compontents are installed, which might be the NS).

If you got an image from a client, that is connected to another site service, the image will not replicate ... you are right.

    Therefor run

"\\<server>\Deployment\Task Handler\Tools\ResourceImportTool.exe" at the NS and import the image to the database and filesystem.

As Mistral mentioned that backup images are intended to store in the same subnet where these has been taken and can not be replicated in between Site Server or NS. Also backup images can be imported by mentioned tool but are un-syspreped and must be used for the same hardware on which it’s been created.

But I would like to understand your issue bit more; please let me know if I am getting this statement “When the back-up proceed sometimes the destination path points to PXE, sometimes points to Altiris Server.” is correct where:

    1. PXE/Site Server is in different subnet and not installed on NS

    2. NS is not a Package Server

    2. Issue is where “for same backup task and same client” is pointing to either a Site Server (Where PXE server is) or to NS/Altiris Server and connection is not consistent.

    @  Vaibhav:

PXE/Site Server is in the same subnet and yes, not installed on NS

    NS is a Package Server

    @ Mistral

I know tool like ResourceImportTool.exe but it isn’t solve my problem because store image only on NS. I would like to store all my images on PXE. The Images aren’t replicate between NS and PXE. I turn off this policy because of free space. PXE and NS works on VM

    3. Issue is where “for same backup task and same client” is pointing to either a Site Server (Where PXE server is) or to NS/Altiris Server and connection is not consistent.

Also your latest comment says that NS is also having PS so should this mean that Site Server is also having package server because this is prerequisite to install DS Site Server Component which installs PXE. And there are 2 Package Server in the same subnet.

I don’t understand what do you mean in point 3. Could you explain in more detail?

As you mentioned I have two PS in the same subnet. Site Server having PS and NS having too.

I was wanted to ask if "the same client’s backup task is pointing to Site Server and NS intermittently" but now as your are having 2 PS in same subnet means the reason of this issue could be Package Server usage logic; which is in such a way where it says that if NS/SS both are having PS installed and are in same subnet then first preference will go to NS and if NS is having process or resource load (CPU/Memory) than to SS.

Also Resource Import Tool can be run on SS as well.
