Details On New Virtual Directory Not Available
Hello, I am using Wise Installation Studio 7 SP1 (7.3.0.250) and having a problem with Virtual Directories.
My installation should setup 10 Virtual Directories.
When I create the first one in the "Web Files" screen, it has the appropriate "Virtual Directory" folder icon (folder with Earth at the bottom-right) and allows me to click "Details" to get to the IIS Settings screen.
No problem there.
All other Virtual Directories I create do NOT have the "Virtual Directory" folder icon. Instead it has a folder icon that has a magnifying glass on it.
This happens for all Virtual Directories created except for the first one.
Since the Wise UI doesn't recognize this as a "Virtual Directory" it will not let me get to the Details/IIS Settings Dialog.
I found a workaround for this by simply going into the Tables [WiseVirtualDirectory] and just copy/paste from the one that did get setup properly.
This tells me that the "New Virtual Directory" method did do at least part of the job (hence the base Table Data is there) but something else failed.
While my workaround is somewhat acceptable, I find that my Virtual Directories (except the first) are missing some key components such as "Enable default content page" is NOT enabled and Installation Settings such as "Remove on Uninstall" is not set either.
I would assume these values are in another Table and I just haven't found it.
I need help in two ways:
If I could find out what other Table(s) includes the cooresponding settings for a Virtual Directory (such as "Remove on Uninstall" then I can just set those manually.
or
If someone has a clue as to how to enable the Details/IIS Settings Dialog for the other Virtual Directories I would be happy.
Here are some other details of my Installation that may help:
The Installation includes (configured as Web Application):
10 Features
4,145 Files
281 Folder
12 Configuration Files
The Strucure of my Features are as follows:
Suite [Root]
+Hidden Feature
+Hidden Feature
+Application1
+Application2
+Application3
++Hidden Feature 1 to Application3
++Hidden Feature 2 to Application3
++Hidden Feature 3 to Application3
+++Condition (&Application1=2) OR (!Application1=3)
+Application4
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if more details are needed I will be happy to provide.
Thanks :-)

Solved But I Don't Know How
I have no idea how or why but the "Details" (i.e. IIS Settings Dialog) now shows up for all of my Virtual Directories.
It was just by rare chance that I tried again today and it worked on all of them so I was able to set the last couple of options that had been evading me.
I'm not sure why this happened.
Is this feature/dialog associated with the <system.webServer> settings in the Web.config files?
I tried setting all of the values within this aggregate of the Web.config as desired including the "defaultDocument" as I mentioned previously.
Since I couldn't find these settings within the Windows Installer Tables, I assumed maybe a Custom Action was reading the values from the Web.config.
Unpon my initial testing I found this change made no difference but now all of a suddon Wise's UI Editor for these settings is now working so I don't know if they were somehow connected.
Known Bug in Windows Installer - Virtual Directory Details
I talked to a Support Rep from Wise (Altiris/Symantec) and confirmed that this is a known issue in the Wise Installer Editor and occurs for various reasons.
In my case access to the Virtual Directory Details Dialog was returned to me but only if I select "All Features" on the "Web Files" screen. If I try going Feature by Feature it doesn't work.
Please note that this didn't work in any way before but just started working for me.
My theory is that it may be tied to the "<system.webServer>" settings in my Web.config Files since I did modify that section in all of my Web Sites not long before this started working again. Again, that is only a theory as it seems to coincide with when the "Details" Dialog began showing up again within the editor.
I haven't found this in the KB yet but a Support Rep has confirmed this is a known issue.
I just thought I should pass this along for when someone finds this thread searching for answers.
Known Issue
The Altiris KB generally does not make content publicly available until it has been accessed 3 times internally. However, known issues should pop up pretty much immediately as users can then subscribe to them to be kept up to date with any fixes. If you get a chance to speak with your Support rep again, ask them if there is a KB number you can subscribe to - this may prompt the release of the KB note into the public arena.
If your issue has been solved, please use the "Mark as Solution" link on the most relevant thread.
