  • 1.  Detection rules for .pkg installers

    Posted Nov 12, 2014 10:05 AM

I am working in Altiris 7.5 to deploy a Managed Software Delivery policy for SEP 12.1.5. I go to the Software Catalog and do an Import. When I import the software resource I notice the detection rule is not set automatically. When I import a software resource for an msi the detection rule is set automatically but when I import a .pkg it is not set. How can I setup a detection rule for Macs that will check if SEP 12.15337.5000 is installed? Thank you.

    Hi,

Which type of pkg you are trying to import? Is it flat package or directory based pkg?

You can import only flat packages as is , for directory based packages you should create dmg/zip archive to succesfully import it.

However I do not see any pkg inside my SEP installation package(which was distributed as ZIP archive, inside which tehre is a custom installer - not a pkg)

BTW you have an option to create custom detection rules - Go to software portal and double click software relese - you should get into software editor view

Choose rules tab and click new button for detection rule. New window will appear that allows you to create custom detection rule - > press plus sign -> from drop down choose ULM Rules -> Software component package.

After you choose it new window appear with three fields -

    1. Product - here you can put pkg id (like com.symantec.symdaemon.install.Universal)

    2. Version - put actual version (for same package I have 5.2.0.0.1)

    3. Match - this is how rule will match version

As I know SEP isntallas several packages, hence you should add more software component packages sub rules into one common rule

Save this rule and apply it as Detection rule for this software

I have attached several screenshots, so you can allocate these views
