  • 1.  Detection Rules for Windows Activation

    Posted Jan 22, 2014 11:24 AM

On occasion, our Virtual Servers "lose" their windows Activation Status.  An administrator then has to RDP in to the system and re-activate the OS.  There is no clear way of telling that a server needs to be re-activated other than either hitting the system and being prompted for the activation or if certain services stop running and we are called that users can't do something.

Is there a way to create a rule in Monitor Solution to check to see if windows is activated and if not set it up to email certain individuals that the system requires activation?

If this state gets recorded in the event logs, then yes.  If not, then you maybe able to monitor the registry.

I just hit a box that needs activation.  Our systems utilize token based activation which require activation every 180 days.  running the command slmgr.vbs /dli will display the licensing information as seen below.

I created the attached policy, however it doesnt seem to either be catching the event in the even log or its not being triggered to send me the email.  Ive never made a policy before, just modified pre-existing ones and those send me notifications when triggered.

It seems that your policy contains items that already exist in my database, so I don't want to import it as it will move them to the new destination.

Please document your policy configuration so that it can be reviewed in that manner.
