  • 1.  DHCP/PXE No Longer Functioning - client.sbs has correct IP, but wrong MAC

    Hey people!

We have had a major issue here!

We need to image over 100 computers and cannot boot to pxe to send the image.

There was work done to the server that added another NIC to the server that accesses the data on a SAN. The other NIC is on another VLAN from the NIC on our network.  This was all working fine on Friday before the updates.  It also worked with the second NIC Friday afternoon, but after the server was shut down and restarted that night, the PXE quit functioning.

Please help.  I have looked at the PXE config and it all looks correct, however, the -client.sbs file has the correct IP, but wrong MAC.

Any ideas on what could have gone wrong? We are quite clueless about this surprise

I looked at the following articles to enable logging:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO21719 : DS7.1: How do we enable PXE Logging?
http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO42166 : Deployment Solution 7.1 Support and Troubleshooting Log Files: Functions and Locations

Do let me know if you guys need to look at the logs.

Thanks in advance for looking into this. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I think this would be part of a known issue with SP2, for which a hotfix is available.  The internal ID at Symantec for this is 2636958.  If you contact support, they can confirm that this hotfix applies to your issue.  The description in the release notes for fixed issues in the hotfix is 'Image creation failed if teaming is created using two physical NIC.'  It's not an exact match but it seems to be close.

Is the NIC you want used for PXE the first NIC listed in terms of priority?  Have you tried recreating the preboot configuration?

    Heya!

Thanks for the prompt reply. Will try and contact support. I was looking for some articles related to this issue and found this one.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH165880 - PXE Services are binding to the incorrect NIC on a Deployment Server with multiple NICs

Just wondering if we can perhaps try this? Can this be of any help at all?

Thanks again for the prompt reply mate. You're a superstar! yes
