This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,

Does somebody know exactly  the differences between "Recovery Solution for Servers" and "Recovery Solution for Clients" ?

In this article  of the Knowledge base, it's written that it's the end_of_life of : Recovery Solution for Server.

https://kb.altiris.com/display/1n/index.asp?c=&cpc...

Currently, we have a recovery solution server 6.2 SP3 with 250 clients. I would like to know if we are concerned by this end_of_life.

Thanks in advance for any answer

Annie

Annie, RS for clients is

Annie,

RS for clients is currently offered and supported in the NS6 platform.  It is also going to be avaiable for NS7.  It is currently in beta for NS7 and should be released here shortly.  This will be fully supported for years to come.  You can check out http://beta.altiris.com if you wish to get a sneak peak of whats to come.

Thank you,

Andrew

RS for Servers and RS for

RS for Servers and RS for Clients are the same exact code, they're just licensed differently (i.e., RS for Servers costs more per node ;) ).  RS for clients is still a viable product for at least 2 years from what I hear, though there is reportedly the "next evolution" of RS in the pipeline, but little information on that at this point.

Thanks,
Kyle

As far as I know RS for

As far as I know RS for servers is replaced by Backup Exec System Recovery for Servers. Some of our customers have allready received an email from Symantec to exchange their licenses.
RS for Desktops as far as I know will come out in a 7.0 version.

RS for servers will not be available for NS7

Just to re-enforce this, this is entirely correct.  Symantec will not be releasing RS for servers on NS7 (though it will come out for desktops).  RS will be replaced by BESR with the BESR integration component tying it into Altiris.

Any more info needed?

Annie,
I know this is a fairly old post, but is there more information you need?  If not, please click the "mark as Solutoin" link on one of the above comments.

I'm sure you received your Recovery for Clients End-of-Life notice in January; if not then here's your notice.  RS is EOL'd but you don't need to panic just yet.  RS 6.2 SP3 is still under engineering support (i.e. hotfixes) until November 2010, and technical support through November 2012; RS 7.0 has engineering support until July 2011 and technical support through July 2013.  By that time the new client backup tool will be out and stabilized so you can switch at that time.

Thanks,
Kyle
