Difference between unmanaged and managed clients
We are the distributor of Symantec in our country. Recently some of our clients buying Symantec endpoint protection SMB 12.1 "5 users license" and using 50-60 unmanaged clients on their network. As there is no way to restrict them it's affecting our business. There is no problem to update virus defination of unmanaged client,no problem with protection like managed clients. So they can use unmanaged clients as many,as long time they want. Isn't it harmful for business ?
I know that managed clients are managed by SEPM and unmanaged aren't.Actually what is the difference between unmanaged and managed clients ? Is ther any difference with protection tehnology ?How should I talk with our client so that they use the certain users regarding their license ?

you are correct managed clients are managed by SEPM and unmanaged the end user to configure by himself/herself for the protection.
Protections are same, howevere the security might be concern on unmanaged clients.

Hi Fariduzzaman,
Q. There is no problem to update virus definition of unmanaged client,no problem with protection like managed clients. So they can use unmanaged clients as many,as long time they want. Isn't it harmful for business ?
--> Yes they can use but they are missing control over the SEP clients. It's always easy to manage through the central console.
Q. I know that managed clients are managed by SEPM and unmanaged aren't.Actually what is the difference between unmanaged and managed clients ?
--> You can refer this article or can show to the clients as well
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/difference-between-managed-sep-client-and-unmanaged-sep-client
Q. Is ther any difference with protection tehnology ?
--> There is no difference in protection technology but you can increase the level of security with unmanged client without applying policies.
Q. How should I talk with our client so that they use the certain users regarding their license ?
--> Every client must follow the compliance policy. They must use number of allocated license only.

Hello,
I am not sure how are your customers are dealing when Auditing happens. Every Business has a Software License Policy.
In any Business it is important to have a correct License for softwares being used on each business machine.
When they face any issues and they call Symantec customer support, the support team would support only that amout of computers for which he is entitled for.
Check this Article:
