Difference between Wise Package Studio pro 5 and 8
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I googled it but really didn't see any comparison list for either. Can someone tell me what the differences are between Wise Package Studio Pro version 5 and version 8 ?
With kind regards,
Mark
Not much really
Support for Access as a database type ended with version 5.x, so any version from 6 and later requires MSDE or SQL/Express, making install a bit more complex.
The newer versions support the later releases of Windows Installer, and the newer versions of Visual Studio, plus there are numerous bug fixes along the way.
The best way to get visibility of what was introduced at each release is to look at the release notes which can be found in the Altiris KnowledgeBase (http://kb.altiris.com)

Thanks so much EdT. I'll check out the KnowledgeBase right now.
Also, do you have a comparison of any other third party MSI packager? Like Devstudio? I've just found out that Symatec won't give us Wise package studio because we have < 1000 clients (I didn't see that anywhere in the fine print prior to purchase) so now we're left with trying to find the best path. We had LiveState prior to CMS Level II and Development Studio came with it, so I could at least go with that but I've never used it. I was hoping to find a comparison chart for MSI packaging products...if you know of a comparison, let me know. Also, if you've got experience with any of the others, or maybe why you prefer Wise over the others, that would be a benefit too.
Thanks again.

Comparisons
There is no single comparison between different packaging tools that I am aware of. The likeliest source would be a systems publication, but any such report starts to be out of date as soon as it is published as new releases with new features emerge from each company (and occasionally Wise too).
All of them offer evaluation downloads, and I would recommend visiting their respective support forums and checking out how many posts remain unanswered and what the satisfaction level is.
Installshield appears to be the logical alternative to Wise, however, as it also enables you to perform direct table edits on existing MSI files, which I'm told is not the case with the InstallAware product.
Wise is the nicest product to use and it's a shame that the development effort is not what it should be, but given that so many vendor software packages now come as MSIs by default, it is often sufficient to just use a basic editor like ORCA to generate transforms.
