Difference Encountered in File Data

Created: 29 Oct 2013 • Updated: 29 Oct 2013 | 2 comments

Everytime a single server is backed up, there seems to be one or two files that have a "Difference Encountered in File Data" that causes the job to 'fail.' However, after the other backup jobs are run that night, the job will run again very quickly and will finish successfully. I just wanted to confirm that there wasn't much I could try, aside from cleaning the tape drive unit to see if it is possibly that that is the problem.

EDIT: Sorry, it's Backup Exec 2012. And I did see that article, but it seemed like that was for the case of it not functioning entirely. Having said that, I don't really think the single file that fails to backup is really a problem, was more looking to make sure that is the case since it almost always happens.

Hi,

You don't mention the version of BE you are running, but check below:

Hello,

Check for any errors in Windows System Events: Event ID's 5,7,9,11,15 These errors point to hardware and scsi communication problems.

Is your tape drive using Symantec drivers?  If not use tapeinst.exe in the local Backup Exec directory to install them. http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO73431

also make sure you are all uptodate with Live Updates and if you have a virus scan running make exclusions for the Backup Exec Processes
