different icons in the Clients window of Endpoint Protection Manager

  • 1.  different icons in the Clients window of Endpoint Protection Manager

    Posted Feb 16, 2010 10:08 AM

I just upgraded to endpoint protection.  When looking at my list of Clients in Manager most have a green circle with maybe a blue exclaimation mark.  A few of the clients do not.  I reinstalled the Endpoint protection on those clients (one of which is the server hosting Endpoint Protection Manager) but they still don't get the exclaimation mark.

What is that icon for?  Should I do something so that all clients have that icon?

    Thanks.

      About the client status icons

When you view the clients in the groups, the icons appear next to the clients and
    indicate the status.
Table 3-1 illustrates and describes the icons.
    Table 3-1 Client status icons
    Icon Description
This icon indicates the following status:

Computer with green dot ■ The client is communicating with Symantec Endpoint Protection
    Manager.
    ■ The client is in computer mode.

Computer without green dot-This icon indicates the following status:

    ■ The client is not communicating with Symantec Endpoint
    Protection Manager.
    ■ The client is in computer mode.
    ■ The client may have been added from the console, and may not
have any Symantec client software installed.

    Client with Red arrow-
This icon indicates the following status:
    ■ The client is communicating with Symantec Endpoint Protection
    Manager at another site.
    ■ The client is in computer mode.

    1)  One of the clients not communicating is the server that is hosting Endpoint Protection Manager.  Why would it not be communicating with itself?
    2)  What is computer mode and how do I change it?
    3)  I've added some clients from the console but I've since gone back and done a client install.

    Thanks.

If you have installed client as unmanaged it won't show up in SEPM console.
open the SEP client - go to Help and Support - Troubleshooting -check if it shows server names or offline or self managed

If it is user mode you can right click on the icon and you will see switch to computer mode option.

If it is showing up as Self - Managed then you need to replace the sylink.xml file
Check solution 3 in the doc below

It seems I have a problem deploying the client to the server that is hosting SEP as well as to a different server.  It keeps telling me the flie vpremote.exe is in use.

On the server you can manually run the setup.exe ( client package ) on the other server as well you can manually copy the Client package and run it manually. However to make remote deployment you will have to disable user access Control on these servers ( win 2008 )

I'm now getting the same error on all the computers.  I guess I can install manually.  I'll try that next as I don't know how to disable user access Control  (I'm using Win 2003 on the servers and Vista on client computers).

    Thanks.
