  • 1.  Difficulty upgrading clients to 11.0.6

    Posted Jun 18, 2010 12:26 PM
I have several Windows XP workstations(and some Server 2003) running 11.0.5002.333 and just a few that run 11.4202.75.  I installed SEP using the PushDeployment Wizard.   Now, I am attempting to upgrade them to 11.0.6 by assigning the package to their groups, but it only appears to be working in a small number of instances. Then, I tried to manually upgrade some of the workstatons that have the package assigned to them, but received a message indicating the computer has a newer version of the software installed.  I looked that message up on Google and found that is a common issue with a GPO install of SEP.

Is there a way to perform the upgrade without having to run CleanWipe on each computer and then install 11.0.6? I did that on a couple of machines and it worked, but I would have to touch every computer on my network.  (app. 5,000)

    Thanks,

    James

There is no need to run clean wipe at this point of time, the upgrade should be simple, if it is failing there may be diffrent reasons for that.

Please go to run and type %temp%

Look for a file called SEP_inst.log

In the log file look for return value 3  and paste 6-7 lines before that

We need all the instances for the Return value 3

Try by restarting the client once...

Was SEP 11.0.5 installed through GPO?

    http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/b5f7f8feb34f49be8025757c0078ebaa?OpenDocument

This kb is for SAV to SEP upgrade but the steps are same for RU5 to RU6 upgrade.

    1. Remove the SEP MSI instance from add or remove programs using MSI Cleanup Utility found in the following link

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301

    2. Remove the old GPO install SEP from the AD Server.

    3. Re-assign the Install Packages to the Client groups from SEPM
