Difficulty virtualizing Smart Notebook with Symantec SWV

Created: 06 Jun 2013 | 2 comments

I wish to install Smart Notebook software ( into a "virtual layer" using Symantec Workspace Virtualization on a Windows 7 64 bit operating system. I have done this successfully, however, when running the Smart Notebook software and viewing content (within its format) that incorporates Flash video files, Smart Notebook reports that Flash is not installed when in fact it is.

Is there a setting that I should be applying in order to help virtualized Smart Notebook software see and work with Adobe Flash (system plugin)?

Your help is appreciated.

Is the Smart Notebook software running a 64 bit browser?  If so, I don't believe Flash is supported in the 64 bit browser environment.

If your issue has been solved, please use the "Mark as Solution" link on the most relevant thread.

It appears to the fact that the virtual process existing within the layer is unable to call the 'flash' modules present in the base.

You might want to check if the layer is tagged with "Activate on System Start-up" if so remove this option and restart your machine and see how it behaves..

Since you have mentioned it is a 64 Bit platform i am trying to think of a bug we fixed in our latest release 6.1 SP8 MP2 (6.4.1895)  . where HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Classes key is being removed and replaced with only the keys in the layers that are Activating at Startup. As a result of this certain applications such as Adobe Flash etc might get affected or do not respond to system calls . Thanks.

Alternatively, check if you have any isolation setup such as "HIDE FROM OS" or even a granular isolation rule in the registry.
