  • 1.  Disable Dismiss Task in New Software is Available dialog box

    Hello,

I would like to disable Dismiss Task/Dismiss All buttons in New Software is Available dialog box. Does anyone know how to achieve that?

Option might be to un-dismiss dismissed tasks - I was trying to investigate that option a bit and settings for dialog box seems to be stored in file notificationlist.xml in Altiris Agent folder. Unfortunately if I change the value in the file manually (dismissed="1" -> dismissed="0") it gets overwritten again. Agent seems to store some date under the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Sessions\[Domain]\[user]\layout  one value being changed is AdsNotificationSnoozeSel and I believe that keeps and selected option for "Remind me in" section for postponed task.

    Hi,

"Prompt user when this policy is available" is not designed for that. You should uncheck "Allow user to turn on policy from Symantec Management Agent"

    allow_.png

And use "Prompt user before running" from Run tab in Advanced options in your Managed Delivery Policy:

For more details about delivery via Managed Delivery Policy please read http://www.symantec.com/docs/GUIDES10019 (There is a section about best practices of using the Managed Delivery Policy)

    Regards,
    Dmitri

    Hi Dmitri,

Thanks for your reply. It might be an option but it has few disadvantages like - by default user is notified 5 minutes before task execution which is not enough. It can be temporary changed by changing value in registry for "Notification Countdown Period (mins)" under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent" but it gets overwritten when agent restarts or new policy arrives. But maybe there is somewhere some other way to achieve it.

Another minor downside is that when the pop-up appears on the top user press Enter and easily trigger the SW installation by accident.

It also seems to me like this Prompt user before running option needs to be specified for each SW within the policy which is not a big deal but it might be annoying for the user.

So for me more suitable would be to use User interaction within the policy but do not give user possibility to disable it.

Where is the dismiss option located under 7.6? I would actually like to envoke this option for my enviroment But I've unable to locate the options.
