When disabling and deleting Managed Delivery tasks within the console, should this also remove the corresponding Windows Scheduled task within the OS?  If not, is it safe to delete manually?

    Thanks!

    Hi jms97!

    1. If you will create a scheduled "Quick Delivery" task on NS server, then "Windows Scheduled Task" will be created on your NS server OS in Microsoft "Task Scheduler Library".

    • You can not disable a "Quick Delivery" task, but you can just "Delete" it from SMP Console and after that "Windows Scheduled Task" will be deleted on your NS server OS in Microsoft "Task Scheduler Library" as well.

    2. If you will create a scheduled "Managed Delivery" policy, then clients will receive it as xml and there will be no "Windows Scheduled Task" created in Microsoft "Task Scheduler Library" on NS and on client side as well. Otherwise it stored in Symantec Management Agent as xml and will be executed according to set schedule by Agent.

    • You can delete or disable "Managed Delivery" policy and then on next policy refresh, client computer will remove it from Agent.

    Thanks,

    IP.

Thanks.  So what I am reading is that it is the scheduled Quick Delivery that is creating the Windows Scheduled Task, not the policy?  That makes complete sense.  What if the tasks are not deleted from the "Task Scheduler Library"?  Is there any harm in deleting them manually?  They seem to be piling up.

As far as I see, any created "Quick Delivery" task with own original schedule (not shared schedule) has schedule in "Task Scheduler Library" and each schedule contains name mention about this "Quick Delivery" task, so if you are 100% sure, that this "Quick Delivery" task is deleted from SMP Console, then you can manually delete its schedule from "Task Scheduler Library".

Otherwise, if you've manually removed schedule from "Task Scheduler Library", but "Quick Delivery" still remains in SMP Console, then it will not be executed on schedule.

    Note:

    • I can say that after deletion of "Quick Delivery" task on ITMS 7.5 HF6, it successfully removes this schedule from "Task Scheduler Library" as well as from SMP Console.
    • If you're deleting a "Quick Delivery" task from Console, but its schedule remains in "Task Scheduler Library", it looks like an issue.
