Question regarding the Altiris Server Management Suite and how the agent is impacted during Disaster Recovery. For our DR, we take snapshots of our VM servers. The original VMs will have the Altiris agent installed on them. Therefore, the DR VMs will get the agent as well since they are duplicated.

How will the NSE handle this? Will both servers (original and DR) agents report seperatly to the NSE? Will there be any conflict since both server names are identical? Will the DR agent need any special configuration since it was installed on the original VM and duplicated over?

    Thanks.

and the VM is then duplicated afterwards the NS will see them as being the same record. If you have them both on at the same time then the record in NS will just show whatever Inventory has been posted last from whichever VM.

If you want them to show up differently you could run aexegentutil /resetguid on the second but if it has the same name and domain membership it will still get the same guid back. I don't think the NS will look at the MAC address to realise it's a different machine.

Thanks andykn101. So given the GUID will be the same, a second question comes up. If a job/task/software package gets deployed, which agent will pick it up? Both or the first one to checkin or the NS will just not be able to handle it and throw an expection.

If it's a Managed Software Delivery Policy both machines will pick it up and run it. If it's a task I would expect it to be random which agent gets it and runs it first.

Just don't have both machines on together.
