This error suggests you have a failing hard disk.  If there is a working operating system on the hard disk, then try running CHKDSK /F to find and fix bad sectors - you may need to restart the machine to run the program during bootup.

If there is no working operating system on the hard disk then are you able to remove the hard disk and put it as a slave drive on another system, and run CHKDSK on it ?  If not, then your next step should be to try and find a bootable diagnostics program that can test your hard disk.

Assuming that you want to restore a backup because your system is not working, it does look very much as if you are going to have to replace your hard disk in order to get the system working again.

If you are trying to take an image of a failing drive in hopes of getting a little bit of data off of it before it finnaly goes compleatly dead use the -fro switch.   It will tell ghost to keep trying even if it gets bad sectors.   I had a drive once that was really bad and I told ghost to clone it and used the -fro so it wouldn't stop part way in.  It had so many bad sectors it took several days to clone it but when it was done most of my data was there.     I had to do a repair install of the OS to make it bootable but ghost brought this one back from the grave so to speek.

Here are several bad drive switches to know about.

If your drive is bad there is still a chance the data is lost but this is worth a try before you decommision the drive.

    cheers.
