Does anyone have comments or can someone share their experience with the Display String Settings?  It seems too good to be true or too dangerous to be used, jk.  It appear to provide the ability to rename everthing in the application (reports, columns and other schema related elements).

    • Is this a whole text, exact match or is it a wild card?
    • Does it support wild cards or regex?
    • Does it effect IT Analytics reports or the cube?
    • How would one integrate custom reports into this feature?

Our company doesn't use Cost Center and was considering a new name for this item; seems like this might accomplish the goal.

Well, so far it is a mixed bag.  The dialog below allows one to create a new division, but it is still in the All Cost Centers hiearchy.

I'm sure this wasn't the intended used.

    Hi Eathen,

This page lets you change the display of the predefined report names, parameters, and columns, the names of tabs, data class attributes and other items in the Symantec Management Console. The Display String Settings page lets you add, edit, and delete custom display strings.

In some situations, your organization might use a name for a configuration item type, report, or the certain field that is not one of the predefined names. For example, a monitor may be called a screen. You can change the predefined name Monitor to appear as Screen in the Symantec Management Console.

    Regards,

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm wondering to what extent the predefined report names, parameters, and columns, the names of tabs, data class attributes and other items in the Symantec Management Console will be changed.  As demonstrated in the screen shot it doesn't rename all items.

The statement mentions data class attributes.  At what level or in what instance is it renaming data class attributes?  Would I see different names when editing a data classes or only see the difference when editing a report?  I don't get where I'd see the data class attribute renamed.
