This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi:

We're using v12.5 with DLO and I'd like to copy a user's network backup location folder to a DVD or tape for safe keeping. I have set the files to be encrypted. I have the encruption password in a safe place but my concern is that I don't know how to decrypt the files at a later date to use. I couldn't find any kind of "Import" feature in DLO to import the data or any mention of how to do so online or in the help file.

Basically the files are encrypted, I have the password but don't know how to decrypt them if there is some kind of disaster and the backup server needs to be rebuilt and the backup data restored.

Thanks for any help you may have.

Can you explain, what type of

Can you explain, what type of encryption did you use? As far as i remember, i have not seen a setting within DLO where you would specify a password for encryption, unless you are using Backup Exec for backups.

Encryption Type

It's an option under the DLO Profile... backup selections.... Modify  from there you get a number of options including encryption and compression. I chose both for security and space requirements.

When I set up DLO it asked me for a password to use in case the server is damaged but I need some reassurance that if the server is destroyed or stolen that I will be able to restore the DLO backups which are Encrypted and Compressed.

Thanks

Eric

The encryption offerened in

The encryption offerened in the profile, is user level encryption. So, it is protected for that user. If the user is deleted from AD, the data cannot be restored by any other user from client side. But, an administrator may choose to restore that data to any other destination or same destination. But, the password that you provided at the time of first startup of DLO console is very important here. If you lose that password, in the new setup of server after it is destroyed, you would not be able to recover the data as administrator also. So, you should protect that password, which is also called recovery password. You would not have any problems restoring any data as long as you have the recovery password.

Please mark it a solution, if this is useful.

Good info... Link Please

OK, thanks.

I have the Recovery Password in a safe place, thanks.

Could you please point me to a Symantec Document detailing how to use the Recovery Password should I ever have to restore the information in case of an emergency. I've looked everywhere but can't seem to find any official S.O.P on how to perform such an important task.

I will certainly return to mark the post as completed once I have that info.

Thanks again.
