Hi Tommy,

Not in any reliable way, but you could probably make it work.

You should ask what you're really hoping to backup in this configuration however. When a user saves a 10MB file, that's 10MB that'll come down your internet pipe.

Get three users doing it, and you'll quickly find your Internet becoming unusable.

Hello,

If you want to backup Windows XP and the BE v 9.1 is installed on the Windows SBS 2003 then it will work.

Have you disabled the firewall in thsi case?

Hej Joshua!

my 100 Mbit line will not make the Internet unusable if the user saves 10 MB

Hej Deepali!

Yes, the firewall is disabled on the Windows SBS 2003 server the Zyxel firewall is disabled if "traffic" is coming from the windows XP machine.

Error from DLO agent "Failed to initialize database unable to connect to mediaserver".

You probably need to enable dynamic ports. see http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/255174.htm

Don't be surprised if your backups start failing. Backing up over the Internet requires a good stable Internet connection. If the BE agent losses connection for only second your backup will fail, so your milage may vary.

Hello,

In the 9.1 release of the Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO), the server and the clients must participate in the same domain or in a trusted domain for shared database access.

The VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) media server and any storage locations must be in a Windows domain or Active Directory. Computers running the Desktop Agent can be outside a Windows domain or Active Directory, but they must authenticate with the domain or directory to access the media server or storage locations. Domain credentials will be needed to authenticate.

You can refer to the below mentioned technote:

Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO) components must authenticate to the domain that the DLO server resides on.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/263197

Kindly verify this and let us know the results.

Hej Ajit!

The windows XP is not in a trusted domain. There is only one machine.

Install the XP in the domain and then move it outside ?

Do you think you can resolve his issue by asking the same question again?
