DLO Remote Administration and event monitoring

I have successfully rolled out the DLO option to about 100 clients both local and remote (VPN'd to domain).
I have 2 profiles setup one for the local desktops to do a scheduled backup and a continous for the laptops.
I am on 11d 6235 with DLO 324B08a the server is 2003 standard sp2 and the clients are all xp pro sp2
The problem that I am having is the client doesn't always backup on the schedule that is setup. some clients will stop backing up all together even know it was working. I have tracked down part of the problem to password changes. This isn't the only reason for the failure though, on the ones that don't fail because of credentials I can manually run the job from the agent.
I would like to at least have the agent alert the user that the backup didn't happen because the password was incorrect. I can go into options to reset them but would like the ability to do this remotely. Is there an event that gets logged when the login fails that I could review or report off of on the admin console? I would also like the ability to launch a backup when I find clients that haven't backed up in a few weeks.
