DLP Oracle Database Queries

I am installing and configuring Oracle Database on the server which has 1.3 TB RAID 5 storage, 16 GB RAM and has Windows Server 2008 R2 as OS.

I have two queries regarding DLP's Oracle Database

    1) How much time does it take to create a database? I have database wizard running for nearly 2 hours and so far it has reached only 47%

    2) Should we modify and configure the amount of RAM avaialable to the Oracle? If we follow the guidelines as descibed in "Symantec_DLP_11.1.2_Oracle_11g_Installation_Upgrade_Guide" we don't configure the amount of memory available to Oracle. It is left to default. Even though SGA and PGA sizing is set to automatic but the default gives only 3.7 GB of RAM to Oracle. Should we reconfigure it or Oracle infact can use more?

it depends, is it progressing from 47% , if yes then you can ignore.

monitor once installed and see the performance and make the changes if necessary.

    Hi Jawa,

It depends the size of database means that the schema and amount of data stored on DB. Also also depends on the application.

has the installation completed? do you see any issues with the operation?

Yes the database installation is complete after 3 hours. But i am little concerned about the performance. I mean we have provisioned 16 GB just for DLP's Oracle database to ensure the performance is smooth. But since the default has mem_max_target=3.7 GB. So i am little concerned that the rest of RAM will remain idle and get wasted. So should i increase the mem_max_target to 12GB. This server is purely for DLP's Oracle Database. 4 GB should be enough for OS i think. Need recommendation from you people since i am newbie and not an expert with Oracle.

if you feel slow and because of limitation of RAM, then increase to 8 GB and check.

i don't think it's ram as i installed on my vmware and i only give 1GB, it's very fast.

it could be a test system, if its in production and there are lot of opertaions that foes on to oracle the chance of slowness can be experienced.

Guys i also installed Oracle on VM for test environment. But it was really fast. But at that that time i decreased the all the table spaces to 1 GB in the template file. So i was wondering since originally the template file has all the table spaces size equal to 32 GB. So that why it was taking long time as compared to time it took in the test environment on VM.

pete_4u2002, i am going to increase the RAM allocated to Oracle and will share the results with you guys. Also let me say that since i was just onlly installing the database fresh and they were no any operation going on so we can rule out the possibility that it is slow due to large number of operations.

Please don't change the tablespace size in production server as Symantec will not support it.

No i haven't change anything in production. I only decreased table sizes while i was installing it on VM in test environment.
