Data Loss Prevention

Hi All,

I am new to DLP, just learning around.
I have the following environment: 1 Enforce, 2 SMTP Prevent, 2 WEB Prevent, 2 Network Monitor
I'm trying to UPGRADE from DLP ver 8 to 10.x with NO access to Vontu/Symantec KDB files presently.

Any kind of help with install/upgrade documentation files via mail or reference links or snapshots, would be appreciated.

You will not be able to upgrade straight from 8.x to 10.5
Taken from the Symantec_DLP_10.5_Upgrade_Guide_Win.pdf:

All Symantec Data Loss Prevention upgrades must be performed incrementally from one major release to the next. From Symantec Data Loss Prevention 10.0 you can upgrade directly to 10.5. But you cannot upgrade directly from versions 9.x, 8.x, or older to version 10.5. To upgrade from versions older than 10.x, you must perform each upgrade in sequence. For example, to upgrade from 8.0 you must first upgrade to 9.0, then from 9.0 to 10.0, and then from there to 10.5.

Every version has its upgrade guide.
You can obtain the upgrade pdf's and the software sources from your Symantec locale branch or your Symantec Partner.

What do u suggest in my environment?

>> Rather than going for sequential upgrades from ver 8 to new ver 10.x.......... should I rather backup necessary stuff & do a fresh install of the new ver?

The answer to the question "Fresh install or upgrade", is a question only you could answer.
I do not know how many incidents are on the system at the moment, but in my belief it would be better to upgrade and keep the information that the system already gathered for future analysis and decision making.
I wouldn't be so worried about the upgrading of all components because when you upgrade the Enforce (the management), it updates the detection servers automatically, so its less troubling for you.

About the links to the pdf's, its a problem since only costumers are allowed to receive them. Since you are a costumer (if you renewed your license and everything), you should be able to download the product and the documentation from the Symantec FileConnect.
