[DLP] Windows 8 agent not displaying in DLP Portal Page Altiris

    Hello everyone

    I'm having a importante issue with DLP Portal in Altiris
     
    I have 121 computers in my actual portal (running W7 and W8, most of all)
     
    However, in DLP Portal I only see this:

    The count is completely incorrect, as I have 121 managed computers. However, I count here:
     
    - 5 managed computers with DLP Agent install and W7 OS
     
    - 2 left are W7 computers with Altiris Agent
     
    - The rest ones are computers with W7 OS only!
     
     
    I already installed 7.5 HF3 (Which should support W8 and W8.1 by default) but it seems not to work. At least not here.
     
    Help please!

    Have you ensured that the Win 8.0/1 machines are running the 7.5 HF3 SMA, as that will most likely be needed?

    Try to capture a sql query/sp (using sql profiler) which is running to populate all this data in "DLP Agent Deployment Status" web part, to determine whether it correctly includes Win8.0/1 or not.

    Yes, It's running that version. Still W8 computers are not showing in DLP Portal Page.

    A couple minutes ago, Symantec Support sent me a e-mail regarding my issue:

     

    Altiris 7.5 does not support DLP 12.X

    Oooops.  I wonder if those products will release a supported version or if they will no longer be an integrated solution?

    The DLP IC was deprecated and all of the DLP agent control features now have been baked into DLP 12.x.  The only function you'd need the SMP for is for actual agent deployment.

    In all DLP implementations I've been part of, I always recommend to use Altiris Platform with DLP complement as a better management for DLP Agents.

    However, knowing this issue and Windows 8 popularity, I guess I won't recommend it anymore.

    The What's New and What's Changed Guide has a section on Removed and Deprecated Features in the release. From the Guide:

    "Removed or deprecated features
    The following features are removed or deprecated in Symantec Data Loss
    Prevention version 12.0. Features that are deprecated in 12.0 will be removed in
    a future release.
    ■ Support for Microsoft ISA is removed and replaced by support for Microsoft
    Threat Management Gateway (TMG). See the Symantec Data Loss Prevention
    Threat Management Gateway Integration Guide for more information.
    ■ Support for the Python ScriptBridge FlexResponse Plug-in is removed. The
    plug-in is for 32-bit systems; for Data Loss Prevention version 12.0, all server
    systems must be 64 bits.
    ■ Installing the combination of Network and Mobile Prevent for Web on one
    server is deprecated in version 12.0. Network Prevent for Web and Mobile
    Prevent are available for installation on separate servers.
    ■ DLP Agent management using the Symantec Management Console (SMC) is
    deprecated in version 12.0. If you use SMC to manage DLP Agents, you should
    migrate to using the Enforce Server administration console to manage agents.
    Most of the management capabilities ofSMCare available through the Enforce
    Server administration console, with the exceptions of the Start Agent, Toggle
    Print Screen, and Set DLP Agent Configuration tasks. The Data Loss Prevention
    Integration Component, which is needed for DLP Agent management through
    SMC, is also deprecated in version 12.0.
    ■ Remote scanning of Microsoft SharePoint and Exchange Network Discover
    targets is no longer supported. To scan SharePoint or Exchange with Network
    Discover, configure a server scan for the target."

    Yet another product that Symantec has removed from their "single console vision" then.
