do i need to check off AOFO

on windows 2008 r2 servers do I need to check off AOFO? I also notice when poushing remote agents it is not selected by default.

 

can someone help?

 

we are using 2010 r3

Dear Sir:

Please indicate with more detail, what exactly it is that you are backiing up. Is it files and foldes, system state, shadow copy components, or agent backups such as SQL Server, Exchange, Sharepoint and what version of those, so we can assist you better.

exchange 2007 vm using hyperv agent

sql 2008 vm using hyper v agent

AOFO cannot be installed/used with Windows 2008 R2

Also, AOFO is not recommended to be used on database backups.

Beginning with Win 2008 & higher, VSS is used for backups & hence AOFO is not installed on such systems...Choosing to install the AOFO option actually installs vsp.sys, however with Win 2008 & higher, it uses microsoft's VSS & not symantec's vsp

And again, if you want to check the option of using AOFO, it is fine for flat-file backups, however not for any exch, sql etc backups...

VSS is used from Windows 2003 onwards.  Installing AOFO (vsp.sys) is required for Windows 2000 and below because they do not have VSS to handle opened files.
