Do I need to open ports on the firewall to Allow SEPM to download using Liveupdate?

Hello Guys,

i have an issue trying to update my SEPM. I usually get error code 4 and I uninstall ans reinstall the liveupdate but the same issue still occurs.

I use Foreront TMG as my proxy server and I can update the standalone client successfully using Liveupdate.

When i run Luall.exe it downloads all the catalogs and finds all the updates it wants to download. At the start of the download i get error code LU1835.

I want to know if i require to open any special ports.

Though I open TCP ports 8443 - 8445 just in case. but no luck.

I urgently need some assistance.

I do not want to bypass the firewall because i have been encountering this same issue at some sites and I want a final solution.

I know i may be asked to bypass the firewall to confirm. i have done that before on SEP 11.

I thought that issue is past with SEP12.1

Please help.

Hi Brian, i have removed the

Hi Brian,

i have removed the firewall i still had the same issue.

Now i ran lucatalog -cleanup and lucatalog - forceupdate to reregister the liveupdate with the SEPM.

it now shows me that the liveupdate succeeded when i run it but with "return code 1". This says there are no new content updates.

The SEP client on this same SEPM updates without any issues with and without the firewall.

Where canthe issue be?

Please help.

hi

Did you check the proxy? Do you have one?

open sepm

admin

servers

on the right and side below, local site, select server,

right click and select edit; You will get a proxy tab; fill in the infromation if you are usign one.

or else do a repair of SEPM from add/remvoe programs, It will re-register all the LU information.

once done

start

run

type "luall.exe" if manager is update; you can see that under admin-servers , local site, show liveupdate downloads at the bottom

Hi Rafeeq, it does not have

Hi Rafeeq,

it does not have the latest defs. It displays that the latest from Symantec is the current date. Yet the manager has no available defs information.

I know about updating with .jdb file downloaded online. i do not want to take the easy way out all the time.i need this to be a resolved issue.

Moreover the .jdb file does not update all the products in the SEPM. I can always download the .jdb and update it.

I thought this SEPM error update would have been solved in SEP12.1

There is no content or definition in the path for from Inetpub. The content file is 0kb and like I said i have not been able to download any defs to this server at all.

I will still clear all that is listed from their locations.

hi

No, alpha numeric folders right, I doubt it would update if you drop a jdb file, too.

hi

If you have just installed this SEPM.

I would recommend you to uninstall / reinstall SEPM latest version 11.0.6100, you can find that in the https://fileconnect.symantec.com

make sure you have installed , in the cosole session

Hi Rafeeq, the funniest thing

Hi Rafeeq,

the funniest thing is that i had SEPM 11.0.6 before now and i upgraded to SEP 12.1 beta, that was when i started having the issue of not being able to update it. I had to uninstall and reinstall it and the issue has remained the same.

I have tried installing on Windows XP and Windows 7 and the issue is till the same.

I have tried the update on other links not with proxy yet the issue is till same.

i want to try out some steps.

At a friend's place I will try to install on a new computer at his end.

try to use an internet source from 2 other ISPs (though i have tried this before) and try to update this non-working one with .jdb file to confirm if it will update after then.

I do not want to give up till i get it working.

i really appreciate your time.

hi

As far as I know , its entirely related to ISP , or proxy.

can you check if these registry keys are still in place?

Hello Rafeeq, I definitely

Hello Rafeeq,

I definitely agree that it is either the ISP or the proxy. I continued to test with all that i have from different computers and different modems.

one computer with Windows XP finally updated while i stayed awake hrough the night. i guess the internet was very fast then. this was without a proxy.and after about 3 failures it worked.

Thanx for all the help you rendered. I really appreciate.

I had the same problem...

I had the same problem...

not sure what your connection speed is on that side but here in South Africa I have many cases where the update simply fails; at the start, in the middle, or just at the end. this happens maby once but if the SEPM is updated with .jdb it works from there.

I also have the Enablement Toolkit installed and that just breaks the Live Update because it pulls content updates when available. All this goes down with whatever other Symantec products needs to be updated and then ultimately nothing updates because of SETK.

Hope that helps...

Cheers
